Love, me

If you get there before I do,
don't give up on me.
I'll meet you when my chores are through;

I don't know how long I'll be.
But I'm not gonna let you down,
Darling wait and see.

And between now and then, till I see you again,
I'll be loving you.

Love, me.

- Collin Raye, "Love, me"

Went to this nice little place hidden away in a corner of Club Street area, Sweet Indulgence (2 Stanley Street). They serve mostly western dishes, we didn't feel like anything heavy that day so we both had chicken. My impression is that the place is a tad shoddy though. Interior lighting isn't that great, some areas are too dark, and the ventilation isn't that good either, giving a stuffy feeling. The first seat we were offered was right next to the window, the aircon was dripping and she nearly hit her head on the window. The second seat was under a spoilt aircon, so it got abit warm. We also had dinner guests; there were ants crawling on the white-cracked walls. And I could see the huge freezer through the kitchen door from where I was sitting.
Mild unpleasantness aside, let's go on to the food.

Oooh look, cheap thrill. And no prizes for guessing what I ordered.

The aforementioned chicken delight. The chicken was delightfully tender, and the sauce was light and not too creamy either. Overall a healthy dish that serves as a pleasant break from the ubiquitous fast food. Kudos to the chef, whom, incidentally, the dish is named after.

Chicken Cordon Bleu. The only other Cordon Bleu I've tried was from Secret Recipe, but unfortunately this does not live up to Secret Recipe's. I didn't really read the menu description for this dish (mainly because I was taking pictures of the menu...) but I didn't taste much cheese. The red mess you see in the lower corner, though not very appetizing, is actually quite a rather nice mincemeat. (I think.)

Can you see what I meant about bad lighting? Anyway this was their Warm Choco Lava Indulgence. Again, sadly, I have to compare it to something else, Beard Papa's Chocolate Fondant. And sadly again, it doesn't compare (although the Chocolate Fondant doesn't come with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Nor the slices of fruits.)

Overall, I wouldn't say I had that great a dining experience here. Passable I guess. It had mixed reviews on hungrygowhere.com too. Speaking of which, I'm thinking of signing up and writing reviews there.

kiss from a rose

I've been kissed by a rose on the grave...
You remain
My power, my pleasure, my pain

- Seal, "Kiss from a rose"

Well, no food in this post, have not been eating much good food. As in, above the ordinary. So let's have some pictures of flowers. The images have been shrunk to save space on my picasaweb account. Notice for each picture I've uploaded them before and after editing. My photo editing skills suck however, and I blame it partly on the lack of software. I will endeavor to get better, however.

Enjoy the pretty flowers. Wonders of nature.

It's a new dawn,
it's a new day,
it's a new life,
for me.

New resolution: To start a food blog for posterity.

And to start it off: Valentine's Day dinner at Karma Kettle and Rhapsody (26B Dempsey Road, 64720221). Quaint, colonial English-style setting. Each table was different, with a different table-cloth, there were paintings hung on the walls, and there were all sorts of greenery, inside and outside the restaurant. Kind of reminds me of the old English mansion-type houses with the backyard looking out into a forest where you would go to visit your well-to-do European/Eurasian grandparents (if you had well-to-do European or Eurasian grandparents)

Complimentary liquor shots, melon and violet flavoured. My first time tasting flower-flavoured liquor. Sweet, and goes down very smoothly. Very light. (Apologies, we got carried away before I remembered to snap a picture)

Violet cordial ($5). With soda water. Smooth, like the violet liquor shot. Very pretty.

Nougat cordial ($5). Uber sweet, just the right thing to appeal to my sweet tooth.

Kathi Roll ($14) Appitizer. Grilled chicken rolled in prata-skin. Served with chutney and mint yoghurt sauce. Crispy, and a good start to the meal.

Across the English Channel ($16). 7 Types of mushrooms in a delicious herb sauce. Mmm mushrooms anyone? I had fun trying to identify the mushrooms. I could only name the common ones, shitake, enoki, portobello and button mushrooms. A little creamy towards the end, but it goes well with the herbed rice.

English Lavender Chicken ($17). Grilled chicken in lavender sauce. Served with cumin rice. Not too heavy, the sauce, the rice, and even the two mini potatoes at the side were aromatic.

This place does serve Eastern-style dishes (the "Karma Kettle" part), which we did not get to try. The western-style part ("Rhapsody") also has steaks. I was dying to try the Valentine's Day special blueberry cheesecake, but alas, we were too full.
