it's a new dawn, it's a new day

It's a new dawn,
it's a new day,
it's a new life,
for me.

and I'm feeling good.

New resolution: To start a food blog for posterity.

And to start it off: Valentine's Day dinner at Karma Kettle and Rhapsody (26B Dempsey Road, 64720221). Quaint, colonial English-style setting. Each table was different, with a different table-cloth, there were paintings hung on the walls, and there were all sorts of greenery, inside and outside the restaurant. Kind of reminds me of the old English mansion-type houses with the backyard looking out into a forest where you would go to visit your well-to-do European/Eurasian grandparents (if you had well-to-do European or Eurasian grandparents)

Complimentary liquor shots, melon and violet flavoured. My first time tasting flower-flavoured liquor. Sweet, and goes down very smoothly. Very light. (Apologies, we got carried away before I remembered to snap a picture)

Violet cordial ($5). With soda water. Smooth, like the violet liquor shot. Very pretty.

Nougat cordial ($5). Uber sweet, just the right thing to appeal to my sweet tooth.

Kathi Roll ($14) Appitizer. Grilled chicken rolled in prata-skin. Served with chutney and mint yoghurt sauce. Crispy, and a good start to the meal.

Across the English Channel ($16). 7 Types of mushrooms in a delicious herb sauce. Mmm mushrooms anyone? I had fun trying to identify the mushrooms. I could only name the common ones, shitake, enoki, portobello and button mushrooms. A little creamy towards the end, but it goes well with the herbed rice.

English Lavender Chicken ($17). Grilled chicken in lavender sauce. Served with cumin rice. Not too heavy, the sauce, the rice, and even the two mini potatoes at the side were aromatic.

This place does serve Eastern-style dishes (the "Karma Kettle" part), which we did not get to try. The western-style part ("Rhapsody") also has steaks. I was dying to try the Valentine's Day special blueberry cheesecake, but alas, we were too full.
